Laura Linney is an American actor, who became famous for her portrayal of powerful but fragile characters. Her father was a renowned playwright. However, Linney was raised as a single child by her single-mother, a nurse. Through the summer months, while with her dad Linney was able to develop a passion for the theatre. Linney eventually pursued acting initially at Brown University then at Juilliard School. Following her graduation she started an Broadway career. The following year, she began her career she was on television. Since then she's been in many films, television productions as well as stage productions. There have been numerous awards in her long career. This includes four Primetime Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, three Academy Award Nominations, and five Tony Award Nominations. Her nominations include five Tony Awards and three Oscar Award nominations. In spite of all the distinctions and awards, theater is her main interest and she will continue to act on both stage and screen.
